Happy Easter! He is Risen!
Two thousand and fifteen years ago, a young Man, with no possessions except the clothes on His back, no place to call home, no position in society, no political standing, died. Why am I talking about this? I have not even given a name.
Many people wanted to see Him, to hear Him speak, to get just a tap on His garment. Why?
There were people who wanted to kill Him, and others who swore that they would die for Him. Have you figured it out, yet?
"Then the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.' " Luke 1:30-31
His name is Jesus. He was born in a humble stable, where the cows, ox, sheep, and possibly other farm animals were kept; among hay, and most likely dung. He was never rich, and learned to make things of wood. But when He was only 33 years of age, He was executed, in a horrible way, after being tortured and mocked. Everyone deserted Him, even those whom swore their life for His. Just a week before, people were cheering for Him, praising Him, throwing out their clothes on the ground for the animal He rode upon to walk on. Then He was wrapped up like a mummy, and put in a small cave for a burial.
Why is this important? Why do we remember it? Because it is not the end of the story. There was a beautiful new hope that blossomed from all the ugly horrors that many cried out for.
"But the angel answered and said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.' " Matthew 28:5-6
He is risen.
Why is this important? Why should we care He came back from the dead? Others were said to have been brought back to life. This is important because this Jesus is the Son of God, the one true God, the creator of you and me, and all this world, and everything in the universe.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." John 1:1-5
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14
"No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him." John 1:18
So, if this Jesus is the Son of God, why did He die so terribly? Why didn't He keep Himself from going to the cross? A very simple reason. To save us from our sins.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23
"For He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Jesus)." II Corinthians 5:21
" 'Who (Jesus) committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth;' " I Peter 2:22
If death is the judgment for the things we have done that were bad, whether willingly, or unknowingly, then someone would have to die that never did anything bad, literally. Who would do that? Who could do that?
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." I John 1:8
"And you know that He (Jesus) was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin." I John 3:5
"For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:7-8
Jesus lived the only, truly, righteous life on Earth, and then died for us. But then God brought Him back from the dead.
Jesus is now in Heaven, the true Heaven, preparing a place for each of His children to live. Not only does He reside in Heaven, but He also lives within each of His believers, through the Holy Spirit.
"If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." John 14:15-21
God has not left us alone. He is full of Mercy. He loves us so much, that He made a way for us to live with Him in Heaven.
"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1-3
All you have to do is confess you're a sinner, repent of your sins, and accept Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior.
" 'And where I go you know, and the way you know.'
Thomas said to Him, 'Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?'
Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' " John 14:4-6
"Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God." I John 4:15
"-that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.' For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For 'whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.' " Romans 10:9-13
"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." Hebrews 10:23
That is why we celebrate Easter, because of the promise of everlasting life in Jesus Christ.
